Events at Longueville House 2019

Longueville House organises a variety of on-site events to celebrate each changing season. We offer a host of educational, entertaining & mouth-watering events on our unique property nestled in 450 acres on the Blackwater valley.  

Traditional Afternoon Tea Saturdays

On a Saturday afternoon once a month, Longueville House serves a mouthwatering Traditional Afternoon Tea. Our tiered Afternoon Tea, with freshly baked breads, ingredients sourced from our walled garden and freshly brewed teas and coffees is an institution in itself and a novel way to reconnect with friends and loved ones for a very memorable experience. Served in one of our three dining areas, we have sittings from 2pm until 4pm. Our next Afternoon Tea dates are:

Pricing: Afternoon Tea Menu - €30 per person. Celebration Afternoon Tea (With a Glass of Bubbly or Sparkling Cider Cocktail) - €35 per person

Harvest Lunch & Walled Garden Tour

Sunday, September 1st & 29th 2019

The O'Callaghan family and Longueville House, shares & celebrates the boutiful harvest from their walled garden with a tour of the walled garde, tastings of their homemade house ciders & apple brandy, all followed by their traditional roast Sunday lunch. Discover the pleasure of growing your own fruit & vegetables, as you are guided through our orchards, walled gardens & on-site cider mill & distillery.

Here's how the day goes:

11:30am

Meet in Longueville House drawing room where you will see the traditional Sunday roast cooking over our open log fire. Meet your guide & set off for an educational talk and tour of Longueville House grounds.

1pm

Return to the house to freshen up, followed by a welcome glass of our seasonal house cider cocktail or homeade apple juice.

1:15pm

Enter the restaurant, where you will sample our traditional Sunday luncheon consisting of an extensive starter, dessert & cheese buffet with all ingredients sourced from Longueville House Gardens. For your mains choose between a seasonal meat dish which has been slow cooked over the fire or freshly caught local fish. An imaginative vegetarian option is also available.

Price per Adult: €69

Price per Child (4 years - 12 years): €25

Advance booking and prepayment is required as numbers accommodated for this event are limited. Booking confirmation will be guaranteed on receipt of payment. 18th Annual Mushroom Hunt

Sunday, October 13th 2019

Don your boots and wellies and hike around the estate in search of edible mushroom varieties home grown here on our estate. With the guidance of our very own mushroom experts Maria Cullen & Jim Fraser, you can discover the pleasure of this exciting activity here at Longueville House. Afterwards Chef/Proprietor, William O'Callaghan, along with his wingman, James Cullinane and team, will prepare for you a banquet of autumn mushrooms from the day's harvest. A fun day out for all and ideal for beginner foragers. Please note that our mushroom hunt takes place in all weathers so are rarely cancelled due to inclement weather.

Price per Adult: €85 includes Coffee & Homemade Cookies on arrival, Mushroom Hunt, Luncheon with Longueville House Cider.

Price per Child (4years - 12 years): €25 includes Milk & Cookies on arrival, Mushroom Hunt, Kiddies Luncheon, Farm Pressed Apple Juice.

Family Pack: €199 for Two Adults & Two Children under 12 years old.

Real Cider Making & Harvest Lunch

Sunday, October 27th & November 3rd 2019

To coincide with the apple harvest at Longueville House, we mark this special occasion by hosting a Real Cider making walk, talk and tour of the cider house and on-site distillery. Learn the ancient art of cider making followed by our Traditional Sunday Luncheon.

Here's what happens:

11:30am

Participants meet at Longueville House, welcomed by freshly brewed tea or coffe in the drawing room. Enjoy the sight and aromas of our traditional Sunday roast being cooked over an open oak log fire. A brief introduction to your guides follows, with maps of the Longueville Estate being distributed. Participants are encouraged to bring wellies or hiking boots and layered clothing for extra comfort. The group will then set off with their guides for an educational talk and tour of our orchards, cider house and distillery.

1pm

The group returns for a comfort break and to freshen up, followed by a welcome glass of our homemade hot cider or apple juice.

1:15pm

The highlight of the day is our legendary luncheon consisting of an extensive starter, dessert & cheese buffet along with the roast or catch of the day. All our ingredients are sourced from the Longueville House Estate and local farmers. An imaginative vegetarian option is always available.

Annual Game Dinner 

Friday, November 22nd 2019 

Ireland's gaming season runs annually from September 1st until January 31st. At Longueville House, Chef William O'Callaghan, celebrates the season with his legendary long-table game dinner. Using game sourced from the Longueville Estate, William and his team cook the game birds on traditional brochettes over an open log fire in the drawing room. The birds are wrapped in pork fat and tied onto the spit which is turned every 15 or 20 minutes, allowing guests to see their dinner being cooked in this traditional manner. Before serving, the lights are dimed and the game is flambed with Longueville House Apple Brandy. Guests dine in the Presidents' Room where the game is served on long oak planks and carved at the table. This evening is always a memorable evening on Longueville House's calendar. 

Here's how the evening goes:

7:15pm

Guests arrive for a welcome drinks reception in Longueville's Drawing Room where dinner is cooked over the open log fire. William O'Callaghan welcomes guests and will give a brief talk about preparing and cooking game.

8pm

Dinner is served communal dining style in the Presidents' Restaurant wher ethe game is carved and served at the table. Guests can either enjoy wine from our extensive list or the carefully chosen wine pairing created by William. (Exact menu will be available closer to the date due to the seasonal nature of wild game).

After Dinner

Retire to the Drawing Room and enjoy a glass of our artisan Longueville House Apple Brandy.

Price per Person: €85 includes  welcome drinks reception, talk about game prepartion & cooking, 3 course country house meal with an after dinner apple brandy. Add €40 per person with wine pairing.
